How to change the network mode of your Pocket WiFi

Tags: Pocket WiFi

Does your Pocket WiFi constantly drop from 3G to 2G?

If you have inconsistent network coverage, changing the network mode of your Pocket WiFi to prefer 3G only may help improve your data transfer speeds.

How it works

  1. The Pocket WiFi is set up by default to prefer 3G so will access this network where possible
  2. If the 3G signal is low, the device may switch to 2G to maintain a more stable connection. 2G data speeds are lower than 3G so allowing your network mode to be automatically selected may not be ideal
  3. If you’d prefer your device only connect to 3G, you can select this option from the online dashboard
  4. Instructions to change network settings vary depending on the model of Pocket WiFi you’re using. Check the step-by-step guide below if you’re using the Pocket WiFi Pro or Pocket WiFi Extreme. If you’re using the Pocket WiFi or Pocket WiFi 2, click here for instructions.

Step 1

Open up a web browser on a device connected via Wi-Fi to the Pocket WiFi. Enter http://pocket.wifi or http://192.168.0.1 into the address bar, and press the ‘Enter’ or ‘Return’ key.
If you don’t have a device connected via Wi-Fi, connect the Pocket WiFi using the Micro USB cable from your PC and then click on the short cut icon on your desktop.

The Vodafone Pocket WiFi online dashboard will then be displayed.

Step 2

Enter your administrator password in the top right hand corner of the page and press the ‘Login’ button. If you haven’t set up a password before, enter 'admin' which is the default password. This will log you in to the online dashboard so you can make changes to your configuration.
