What to expect during your transition to Vodafone

If you've recently transferred your connection from 3 to Vodafone, there are a few things we need to tell you to make the move to Vodafone as simple as possible. These include info about how to pay your bill and some differences you may notice on your new monthly bill.

What's the difference?

On 3, you have been charged for your services after you've used them, at the end of the billed month. On Vodafone you are charged your minimum monthly spend before you use it, at the start of the billed month. So this means that you may receive your final 3 bill and your first Vodafone bill at the same time.

How your final 3 bill is calculated

If you don't use all of your included value during your final billing period with 3, your minimum monthly spend will be charged in proportion with the amount of included value you use (plus any excluded or additional services). You'll see on your final bill:

  • A charge for the full minimum monthly spend
  • A credit for the unused portion of your minimum monthly spend

Paying your final 3 bill

It's important that you pay your final bill from 3. If you pay it by direct debit, there's nothing more to do. 3 will debit your bank account or credit card as usual on the due date. If you're paying by any other method, please refer to the payment slip details on your 3 bill.

Paying your first Vodafone bill

If you provided your direct debit details in store, or requested to transfer your existing direct debit details, there's nothing more to do. We'll debit your nominated bank account or credit/debit card on or shortly after the due date.

If you pay by any other method, please refer to the payment slip details on your Vodafone bill. This includes updating your regular payments like BPAY with the new biller code and BPAY reference number.

Your first bill may be higher than expected

For example, if you moved from 3 to Vodafone on the 6th of the month and your new Vodafone billing date is selected as 13th of the month, on your first Vodafone bill you will be charged your Vodafone minimum spend for 1 week on a pro-rata basis for the 6th to the 12th. You will also be charged your minimum monthly spend (eg $29) for the next month in advance.

In this example you could be paying for up to 6 weeks of minimum spend on your first Vodafone bill as it covers 6 weeks of usage. All future bills will cover 1 month of usage in advance.

The charges and entitlements including your plan amount are less than you expected

You will always receive the full value of your entitlement once GST is calculated. The charges listed on your Vodafone bill are calculated exclusive of GST. A single charge of GST will be shown on your bill for charges and discounts that are applicable for GST.

For example:

If you are on a $49 plan, you will see a charge of $44.54 in the monthly plans & services section. You will also see the GST value of $4.54, which together equals $49.

Likewise, if you have entitlements of $450 of included usage, then this will display on your bill as $409.09 exclusive of GST. Your usage rates are also calculated in the same way.
